Geodetic Control

Stewart ensures that a geodetic control network is utilized to provide a common reference system for establishing a coordinate framework for all GIS data layers. A geodetic control network provides the means for tying all geographic features to common, nationally used horizontal and vertical datums. Geodetic control monuments have precisely measured horizontal and vertical coordinates and they are often used as the basis for densifying a control network.

Confirmation that all geospatial data layers are delivered in the correct projection and datum (coordinate system) is an essential task that is completed at the onset of each Stewart project. GPS surveying plays a major role in creating an accurate geospatial foundation for all of Stewart's projects. If there is an existing geodetic control network within a project country, Stewart verifies its accuracy, and updates or densifies as necessary.

When the geodetic control network is confirmed, this enables local surveyors to perform property surveys that are compliant with the existing geodetic control. Accurate long term maintenance of the parcel database is then assured by the surveyors, who use either total stations or GPS receivers to complete subdivision surveys.
